Gala Night to Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression

1 September in the 104th year of the Republic (2015)

At 7:30 pm on Tuesday 1 September in the 104th year of the Republic (2015), the Planning Committee of the National Day Festivities to Celebrate 104th Year of the Republic from Civic Organizations of All Sectors in Hong Kong held the Gala Night to Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression at MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok. 

On 15 August in the 34th year of the Republic (1945), Japan declared unconditional surrender. On 2 September, the Japanese Instrument of Surrender was signed by Japanese representatives and Allied representatives on board the USS Missouri. The Surrender Ceremony in China was held in Nanking on 9 September 1945 in Nanking. Hence the 104th year of the Republic was the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

The Convener of the Gala Night was Mr. Tseng Hsing-ming(曾醒明先生), production was by Ch’u Kuang Cultural Services Centre, sponsors were from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Mr. Hau Pei-tsun (郝柏村院長), former President of the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China travelled from Taiwan to address the audience. There were over fifty veterans of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression from Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland who attended the Gala Night. The number of audience amounted to nearly two thousand. It was a magnificent evening.
