Commemoration Ceremony of the 151st Birth Anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Homages from 180 Chinese Civic Organizations in the World

5 June the 105th year of the Republic (2016)

At 9:30 am on Saturday 5 June in the 105th year of the Republic (2016), the Allegiance to the National Flag Committee of Sung Tao Society invited 180 Chinese civic organizations around the world to take part in the Commemoration Ceremony of the 151st Birth Anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Mausoleum in Nanking.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen was the revolutionary leader who overthrew the Ch’ing Dynasty. He was the Father of the Republic of China and the founder of the Chinese Kuomintang. He passed away on 12 March in the 14th year of the Republic (1925) in Peking. His casket was placed in Pi-yün Temple at Fragrant Hill in Peking. After the victory of the Northern Expedition in 1928 when China was again unified. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen was finally buried at the Mausoleum in Nanking on 1 June in the 18th year of the Republic (1929).

The officiate of the Commemoration Ceremony was Mr. Wu Shih-wen (伍世文部長), former Minister of Defense of the Republic of China. The Master of Ceremonies also read two tributes prepared by Ms. Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱主席), Chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang and Mr. Hau Pei-tsun (郝柏村院長), former President of the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China. The Chinese civic organizations who took part in the Commemoration Ceremony came from all over the world. Fifty five were from Taiwan, forty from Hong Kong, twelve from Japan, one from Singapore, three from Malaysia, two from Thailand, thirty five from the Philippines, four from Britain, one from Germany, ten from Canada, seventeen from America, altogether a total of one hundred and eighty Chinese civic organizations.

The Commemoration Ceremony was initial planned to be on 1 June, the day Dr. Sun Yat-Sen was buried. However being a Wednesday, it would be difficult for overseas representatives to plan their schedules flying into Nanking. Hence the date of the Commemoration Ceremony was changed to 5th June, a Sunday.
